What is a memorial state?
The memorial state is a feature in social networks like Facebook or LinkedIn that allows the profile of a deceased user to be put into a special status, serving as a digital place of mourning. In this state, the profile is marked with a note such as "In Memory of." No more birthday notifications are sent, and the profile no longer appears in friend suggestions. Friends of the deceased can still visit the profile to share memories or leave condolences, creating a space for grief and remembrance.
How do I report a deceased relative?
Relatives who own a Userwill card and are registered as users initiate the management of the digital legacy by using the Userwill ID. This is done by simply entering the ID or by scanning the QR code. To ensure the integrity of the process, confirmation of the relative's identity is required. Userwill safely and respectfully conducts this step through a specialized service provider. The death certificate is uploaded and then reviewed by Userwill to ensure it meets the requirements. Once the death certificate is verified, Userwill informs the online services according to the deceased's instructions on how to proceed with the online accounts.
Can Userwill or relatives access my passwords through Userwill?
No. This is technically impossible. Userwill is not a password manager, but a mediator and legal enforcer of your will.
What is the difference between the free and the paid protection?
With Userwill Basic, you can leave instructions for handling your digital legacy, which can be passed on to relatives as a free PDF file. Userwill Care ensures that these instructions are actively implemented by Userwill GmbH in the event of death. Unlike Userwill Basic, with Userwill Care you receive five Userwill cards. You can pass these on to your relatives so that they can initiate the implementation of your instructions in the event of death. Userwill acts as a mediator here and does not have access to your personal login data.
What if a Userwill card is lost?
If you lose your Userwill card, there is no need to worry about the security of your data or your digital legacy. The card alone does not give anyone access to your online accounts or passwords. It only serves to activate the process specifically determined by you at Userwill, so that your instructions can be implemented. In the event of your death, relatives must not only scan the QR code on the card but also prove their identity and present a valid death certificate. Without these steps, Userwill cannot perform any actions.
How do I get a replacement card?
If you need a replacement, Userwill will replace the card out of goodwill. This ensures that your digital legacy remains protected and your relatives can act according to your wishes, without additional worries in the event of bereavement. Our contact form can be found here: https://app.userwill.com/contact
